William J. Maro, "Billy Joe" (aka Toota The Horn), 73, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2013, at his home in Burlington.

Bill was born on Dec. 23, 1939 in Bristol, the son of the late Angelo M. and Josephine (Fazzina) Maro. Bill attended Bristol High School (class of 1959) and attended Cameron University in Oklahoma. From there he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Springfield. He worked for Crowley automotive as a salesman for many years before he retired. Bill loved his restaurant the Lead Penny Pub.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Maryanne Violette of Burlington, and his three children, Deana (Maro) Bouley of Bristol, Craig Maro of Bristol and Jay Maro of Key West, Fla. Bill was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Bristol. He was also a member of the West End Athletic Club and the Italian Social Club of Bristol. He was an avid Red Sox, UConn and New York Giants fan. Anyone who knew Bill, knew they had a friend for life.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, July 21, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol. A celebration of his life will be held Monday July 22, at 9 a.m., at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Church, at 10 a.m., 111 School St., in Bristol. Burial will follow with military honors in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bristol.
