Kathleen "Kathy" S. Torneo

Kathleen (Kathy) Schlitter Torneo, 71, died unexpectedly on 8/30/25 in Bristol, CT. Kathy was born on September 3, 1953, in New Haven, CT, the daughter of Earl and Olga Schlitter of New Haven, CT.

A graduate of Lee High School in New Haven in 1971, Kathy worked at Yale University as an Administrative Assistant. While working at Yale she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services- Counseling from Springfield College. Shortly thereafter, she began her career as a Home Care Assistant, a position she loved and from which she received much joy in being able to provide personal care and assistance to others in need.

Kathy will be remembered for her quirky sense of humor but more importantly, she was known to be a warm and giving sole to her family and many friends. During the holiday seasons Kathy was known to prepare and provide meals for her less fortunate neighbors.

She was a passionate animal lover, especially dogs, advocating for the protection and well-being of animals and donating her time and resources in helping various causes.

Kathy is survived by her brother Robert Schlitter (Roma) of Guilford CT, two nephews, Eric Schlitter (Cheryl) of Beacon Falls, CT, Craig Schlitter (Meredith) of Westford, MA, two great nephews Craig Jr. (CJ) and Zane and two great nieces, Stella and Vienna, all of whom she greatly adored. She was pre-deceased by her mother, Olga Schlitter and father Earl Schlitter.

With her passing, Kathy’s remains have been cremated. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on September 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven.
