Joseph PetkeBristol, CT Joseph Petke Joseph Everett Petke, 61, of Bristol, CT, passed way unexpectedly Saturday, February 7, 2015. He was the husband of Jennifer (Thompson) Petke. Born in Westfield, MA on April 11, 1953, Joe was the son of the late Mare (Hunt) and Walter Gerhardt Petke. He graduated from Bristol Eastern High School and the University of Connecticut after which Joe served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Joe was a basketball referee for the Bristol Boys & Girls Club, Plainville YMCA, also many high schools and colleges.
He was an avid New York Yankee and UConn basketball fan and a long time member of Pequabuck Golf Club. More recently, he had a newfound love for woodworking. In addition to his wife, Jennifer, Joe is survived by two daughters; Rachel and Erin Petke; a brother Jon Petke, his wife Mimi and two sisters, Emily Backus and Susie Rotondo; a mother and father- in-law Patricia and Phillip Thompson; sister-in-law, Erica Puglielli and husband Mark; and brothers-in-law, Howard Thompson and wife Jenni; and Phillip Thompson and wife Janna plus several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 18 at Dunn Funeral Home at 191 West St. Bristol, CT 06010 from 4 to 7 PM. A memorial Mass will be held Thursday, February 19 at 11:00AM at St. Gregory Church, Bristol. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
My deepest condolences to Joe's family, especially his wife Jennifer and her daughters, on your great and premature loss. Like Rob Boling, I also had the privilege to serve with Joe in the Corps. If I were going down in a firefight, I've met no better comrade with whom to fight "back-to-back". Joe: I am looking forward to rendezvousing with you on the other side, where I reckon you will be in a far better place than I. Semper Fi!

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of Joe. I only knew Joe for a short time in the Marine Corps, we were in the same platoon in Officer Candidate School (basic training) in 1976, Quantico, Virginia. The amount of courage and sense of humor Joe showed at that time was remarkable, and a big help to me and others at a time when we all needed it. I have thought about those days many times over the years and have always admired and have been very thankful to Joe for all his help in making it through that time. Joe was a great guy by any measure, I am glad to have known him. Rob, Apache Junction, Arizona

To everyone who knew and loved Joe - Like Ed Poglitch, I went to elementary school with Joe and will always cherish those days. His family was deeply connected with Bristol Eastern High School, as was mine, and our families knew each other very well outside of school. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. Although I left Bristol many years ago, my brother Rick will see Joe from time to time, and he always asked about me. He had a really great grin! It's way, way too young to leave us.

Jennifer and Family,
Joe was a great friend to myself, my wife and my in-laws. We want to extend our deepest condolences to all of you. Joe's sense of humor and infectious laugh brought a smile to many of my fellow members at Pequabuck Golf Club. I would also like to extend our deepest condolences on behalf of the membership of the Pequabuck golfing family and staff! Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult of times. Joe will truly be missed but the wonderful memories and stories will carry on forever!

Dear Jen,Rachel&Erin: We sent a message last Sunday and it didn't get
recorded so am trying again. We were so shocked and sad when we found
out Joe had passed away. These things can't be figured out and are so hard
to accept but faith will get you through it all even if it doesn't seem to help
right now. We will remember Joe's smile he always had when we were all
together at family events. Our prayers will be with you in the coming weeks
and we wish you comfort and peace as you face each day.Love,Carlene and

I am proud to say that Joe was a good friend. We talked about once a week or so. We had some fun trips to play golf at some great places and spend time together. You always knew that you would end up laughing at some point in the day with Joe.
He is the only guy that I ever saw with a picture of his family on his golf bag. Never saw him without it. If it fell off the bag you had to help him search and find it. He loved his family and was very proud of his daughters.
I will miss him and miss him already. Let me know if Mel or I can do anything for you.
