Joseph R. Cavallaro, 92, of Suffield, passed away Friday, (October 5, 2007) at Kimberly Hall Healthcare, Windsor, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Marie (Borgio) Cavallaro. He was born December 5, 1914 in Plainville, the son of Frances (Torello) and Bernard Cavallaro. He was a 1933 Plainville High School graduate and he was a member of the United States Coast Guard during World War II, earning several commendations while serving in the Pacific. He attended The American Academy of Embalming in New York City, returning to Connecticut after graduation, where he was employed by the Bailey Funeral Home in Plainville. In 1957 he became the President and owner of Dunn Funeral Home, Inc., Bristol where he was employed until his retirement in 1984. He was a former President of the Hartford County Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of Chippanee Golf Club, Bristol Elks #1010, and of St. Gregory Church, Bristol and Sacred Heart Church, Suffield. He lived in Bristol until 2004 when he moved to Suffield. He is survived by his son, Norman and his wife, Elaine, their children, Ann and Joseph of West Suffield and their daughter, Sarah of Dry Tortugas, FL. Besides his wife, Marie of 60 years, he was predeceased and by his brothers, Anthony, Leonard and Gavino. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol to St. Anthony Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 - 8 p.m.
