Jim Shanley, 28, of Bristol Connecticut, beloved son of Robert and Mary Kay (Shannon) Shanley passed away after a three-year fight with metastatic Colon Cancer, Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Sean Shanley, of Bristol, and his girlfriend, Amy Hare, of Newington. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Eileen Shanley, Patricia and Robert Banach, Catherine and Fred Dooe, And several beloved cousins. He was predeceased by aunts and uncles Carol and Raymond Miller, and James Shanley. He was also predecease by his grandparents Jim and Marion Shanley, and Frank and Peg Shannon.

Jim graduated from St. Paul's high school in Bristol Connecticut and from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy New York. He received the Civil engineer degree and worked as an engineer for the Connecticut Department of Transportation. He was a gifted athlete playing baseball and football in high school and college Jim was optimistic, hopeful, kind, loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Jim had a deep sense of faith, family, and friendship, and made it impact in the lives of everyone he met.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013, at 10 o'clock at St. Matthews church in Forestville. The family would like to have everyone meet them at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Bristol. Friends and relatives may call at Dunn funeral home 191 West St., Bristol, CT on Sunday from 4 -7 p.m. The family is grateful to the compassionate care received by many doctors and nurses including Dr. O'Connor, Dr. Buccheri, Dr.Kaplan, Dr. Silver, Dr. VanLinda, and Dr. Stadler, nurses Marianne, Jen, Joe and Ashley, as well as many other compassionate caregivers at St. Francis hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
