It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Topalian, formally of Bristol, she passed away June 22, 2024 at Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.
Betty was born in Roseboom, New York on October 27, 1933 daughter of the late George and Leona (Barner) Van Patten.
Betty came to Connecticut in 1955, the year of the big flood, she lived in Bloomfield then moved to Hartford where she raised her three children and meet her husband Jacob (Jack) Topalian.. Betty moved to Bristol in 1972 and worked at various places in Bristol including; Bristol Convalescent Home, Bristol Works and the old downtown McDonald's. Betty was known to travel on the bus all over Bristol and frequented, Crystal Luncheonette, Oasis Restaurant and downtown McDonald's. She loved to play bingo, where she earned the name "Bingo Betty", she also loved to do scratch off and actually won $20,000.
she would say off the cuff comments, but she had a good heart and she loved her family and friends.
Betty is survived by a son, Leonard Van Patten; and two daughters, Donna Szydlo and Susan Van Patten (Foote), three grandchildren, Joshua Foote, Ernest Szydlo III and Desiree Szydlo, also survived by a brother Everett Van Patten. She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11 A.M., at Asbury United Methodist Church, 90 Church Ave., Forestville, CT 06010. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
