Glastonbury, Mrs. Dorothy Fern (Fraher) Murphy, 93, of Glastonbury passed away on June 14, 2011 with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of Timothy Joseph Murphy, Sr.

Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 10, 1917 the daughter of the late John Joseph and Agnes Fern (Pike) Fraher.

She is survived by two sons, John Murphy and his wife Deborah of Vernon and Michael Murphy and his wife Susan of Southington. Six daughters, Barbara Washbond of Wethersfield, Beverly Nill and her husband George of Bristol, Kathleen Martin of Windsor, Dorothy Fox and her husband Robert of Manchester, Margaret Seely and her husband Paul of Old Saybrook and Maureen Burrier and her husband Donald of East Hartford.
Also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by a son, Timothy Murphy, Jr.,

Dorothy's most important and fulfilling job was taking care of her large family, but when her children were grown she continued to be a caretaker by working for Companions and Homemakers. When she retired she moved to Bristol where she enjoyed Ballroom dancing and square dancing. She was also a member of the Senior Olympics Swim team and the winner of 3 gold medals. Dorothy moved to Glastonbury in 2004 and lived for the last 3 years at the Glastonbury Health Care Center.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church in Hartford. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill.
