Donald W. Lounder, 72, of 415 Perkins St., Bristol, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, after he lost his courageous battle to cancer at UConn Health Center in Farmington surrounded by loved ones. He was the husband of Valarie (Pilbin) Lounder. Donald was born in Bristol on Oct. 13, 1938, the son of the late Stephen and Martha (Gervais) Lounder. He served his country in the Army stationed in Korea being honorably discharged in 1963. He worked for 24 years at EGS Electric Co. in Terryville until he retired in 2001. He was a member of the Polish Club in Forestville and was an avid Red Sox and UConn basketball fan. He loved to play golf, cribbage, set back and was a former member of the Jaycees. Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Mark Lounder of Plainville; two step-daughters, Lori and her husband, Steven Ettel, of Florida and Cheri and her husband, Durand Tessier, of Bristol; six step grandchildren, Kaitrin, Abbey, Joshua, Nathan, Jonah and Karoline; plus his great stepgrandson, "his buddy" Shawn; his sisters, Laverne Bouchard of Bristol, Joan Nelson of Bristol, Cheryl Collar of Bristol and Nancy Fowler of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a his first wife, Teresa (Maleo), Lounder; his daughter, Donna Lounder; and sister, Marlene Feaster of Ohio, Earl Lounder of Vermont and Richard Lounder of Clinton. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the UConn Oncology staff on the 6th floor for all the wonderful care giving to Donald. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Friends may call at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol, on Thursday from 10 a.m., until time of the service.
