Mr. Chester Z. Szydlowski, 81, of 259 Park St., Bristol died peacefully June 20, 2004 (Father's Day) at the Bristol Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Driscoll) Szydlowski.
Chet was born in Bristol on December 22, 1922, the son of the late John and Katherine (Zetarski) Szydlowski.
He graduated from Bristol High School in 1941. He served his country during World War II for four years, one month in the United States Navy through two different theaters of battle, seven campaigns and three invasions. He also received the Navy & Marine Corps Medal for rescuing a Marine from drowning.
He worked over forty years at the Bristol Brass and then proceeded to enjoy twenty years of retirement. He was active in The Bristol Lodge of Elks # 1010, The American Legion Post # 2, The Saint Joseph Polish Society, a Life member of the Italian Social Club, The Bristol Senior Center and a member of the Blue Boar Inn.
Beside his wife of fifty-seven years, he is survived by two sons, Steven P. and his wife Georgiana B. Szydlowski, and Paul J. Szydlowski; a brother John B. Szydlowski, all from Bristol; a sister, Lillian Poole of Florida; three grandchildren, Shea S. Kinney, Kelly S. Brown and Steven J. Szydlowski; three great-grand children, Richard J. Brown IV, John J. Kinney V. and Grace Katherine Kinney; and niece's and nephew's and cousins.
He was predeceased by three sisters and a brother.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, June 24th between 8:30 am and 9:30am at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
